TMC leader Sheikh Hamid sparks row after warning Indus police OC at rally

A political controversy has erupted in Bankura after a video surfaced showing Sheikh Hamid, the block president of the Trinamool Congress in Indus Block, issuing a stern warning to the officer-in-charge of Indus Police Station during a road meeting at Kushmuri Bazar. The video, widely shared on social media, has drawn sharp political reactions.

In the video, Hamid can be heard referring to a recent Trinamool–BJP clash and criticising police action, alleging bias in arrests. Addressing the police officer directly, he warned that once the election process is over and the state returns to the control of his party, the officer would have to “decide” where he would be posted. The remark has been interpreted as a direct challenge to the police administration. The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly condemned the remarks, accusing the TMC leader of threatening law enforcement and attempting to influence police conduct ahead of elections. The BJP has demanded strict action and claimed that such comments reflect political interference in policing.

The Trinamool Congress has not issued an official response to the controversy so far. Meanwhile, the incident has intensified political tensions in the district, with opposition parties demanding accountability and questioning the neutrality of administrative machinery during the election period.
